Strength and Treadmill Mix-up

Yesterday’s workout called for some strength training. I look forward to my strength training, which I do Monday, Wednesday, Friday. As much as I love cardio, I really love the feeling after a great workout with some weights. I feel strong:)

012

I always make sure to do a bit of cardio though to really get my heart pumpin’. I saw this treadmill workout on Lindsay’s blog and thought it looked like a good mix of intervals and hills. I ended up switching it around though and doing the intervals first then the hills second and shortened the time. My workout ended up looking like this.

After my workout, it was time for dinner of course.

My mom is sick (sore throat, etc.) I hope I don’t get sick, blah.

So she made some soup. I had a cup of tomato with this bowl of protein.009

Looks gross but tasted good. Beans, edamame, tomatoes, cottage cheese, turkey.

011

Pretty much a salad without the lettuce because I was way too lazy to cut and wash the lettuce 🙂

New Creations and a New Workout

For some reason I feel like I have so much information to relay to you all right now. I’m probably over exaggerating as usual ;D

Okay, so before I get to what I really want to talk about, I have a new smoothie recipe for you all. I understand I just had a blog post about fall and what I love about it and then I turn around and make a summer salad. Now I am turning around and making smoothie bowls. I’m obviously as indecisive as it gets but since I live in Florida and it is still warm, I have an excuse:)

017

021

Into the mix went:

  • 1 Cup Almond Milk
  • 1/2 Frozen Banana
  • 1/4 Cup Frozen Mango
  • 1/2 Cup Frozen Raspberries
  • 1 Scoop Vanilla Protein Powder

It’s as easy as that. It was awesome. Topped with some granola and Quaker oatmeal squares.

Workout

My workout today was intervals on the treadmill and a lower body workout. I can’t tell you how long it has been since I last focused ONLY on my legs at the gym. I usually do a full UPPER body workout or I do a FULL BODY workout. My legs were craving some attention!

Quick Treadmill Interval Workout

3-8:30 20 sec @ 9.0, 40 sec @ 4.5
8:30-10 4.5
10-20 20 sec @ 10.0, 60 sec @ 4.5

I then walked for about 4 more minutes at 4.5 speed and a 12.0 incline. I finished 2.30 miles in total.

Lower Body Workout

Adapted from Fitnessista.

  • Lunges (15 on each side)
  • Jump Squats
  • Calf Raises (15)
  • Hip Thrusters (15)
  • Jumping Lunges (30 seconds)
  • Sumo Deadlift (15)
  • One legged Deadlift (15 each leg)

I repeated this twice and upped my weight by 5 lbs. each time.

Already feelin’ it! I foam rolled once I got home:)

Dinner

The other day at the store, I picked up a whole wheat pizza dough from the Publix Bakery and today was the last day we could use it before it went bad.

Homemade pizza was on the agenda for tonight!

I LOVED pizza when I was younger but as I grew older I pretty much stopped eating it because I thought it was too fattening. Ridiculous, I know. However, I love making pizza at home because you can put whatever you want on it and it comes out extra delicious to me!

Biscoff and Whole Foods

Hello loves! How’s your weekend going? 😀

I just got home from being out all day and am getting ready for church.

~~~~~
About a week or two ago I found something amazing at the store.
DSC01555
Whoever has not tried this yet, drop everything you’re doing and go get some. I’m not kidding it is out of this world. I wasn’t sure what it was and I was expecting to be like a peanut butter, but it is actually made out of biscoff cookies. It is sweet and delicious and tastes like dessert. Apparently, it is the Europeans alternative to peanut butter. People in Europe also eat nutella so if that stuff isn’t addicting enough, this is the new deal.
I’ve been wanting to come up with a recipe for baking with this spread for a while and last night after dinner I really was in the mood to bake. However, I got lazy and didn’t feel like experimenting in the kitchen at 9 o’clock at night. So what did I do? Looked up a recipe of course 🙂 Two clicks and I’m there. I used this recipe from Two Peas and Their Pod. I followed the recipe exactly except I cut it in half, so head over there and check it out if you’re interested! Here are pictures of the process.
DSC01558
Be careful when placing on sheet because they came out HUGE next time I’d use less for each cookie
DSC01559
Ta da ;D Yum! I thought the biscoff would be a little more noticeable but it was still deelish.
Next time I have enough time, I’ll definitely come up with a new recipe so stay tuned! In the meantime, buy this spread and enjoy it. Warning: it is dangerous.
~~~~~

This morning I slept in till NINE and it was wonderful. That is late to me these days, pretty sad. After relaxing and a light breakfast, it was gym time!

I did 20 minutes of HIIT on the treadmill.

  • 2 minute warm up
  • 20 seconds @ 9.0
  • 40 seconds @ 4.5
  • 2 minute cool down

I then took my favorite yoga class and it was amazing.

After that, we stopped in the mall because I needed new pillows and I wanted TOMS. There were none in the mall so we stopped at Whole Foods and they didn’t have my size.

I’m a tall girl so I wear a big size and my right foot is bigger than my left –___-

003

I LOVE that this was outside of Whole Foods. I got so excited, so cute!

It was also around lunchtime so this happened.

006

$26 lunch for my mom and I. It was totally worth it Smile with tongue out

We had a few things to pick up so we got that before heading home.

007

Kombucha and 4 for $5 Lara bars.. score!

Now it’s time for church! I’ve been sitting here blogging with a towel on my head.

Do you like kombucha? Favorite one?

Have you tried Biscoff spread?

Favorite way to eat it if you have?

Favorite Lara bar flavor?

Catching Up and Cuteness

Good morning to you all and TGIF! ;D

I figured I’d start off today’s post with some cuteness. Be prepared people, it may take your breath away.

This is my Friday favorite. Well actually every second of my life favorite but same thing.

001

I LOVE when Bentley does this. When he’s acting like a baby, I pick him up and he hugs me and rests his head on my shoulder. I had to capture the moment<3

Last night I was going to post but I got way to distracted by Grey’s Anatomy two hour season premier!

Greys-Anatomy-Season-7

jesse-williams-shirtless

Whoops how’d that get in there? ;D Nuff said.

~~~~~
Anyway, time to catch you all up on what I did yesterday. I didn’t get to the gym till about 6 pm last night. That’s super late for me! I usually like to workout in the mornings but my early classes have been preventing me from doing so.
I also had to look at some more apartments before working out so that’s why I got there late. It was still a great workout!
Thursday’s are my cardio-only days so I do about an hour. I like to split up my running into HIIT, speed, steady, and hilly. Yesterday I decided to do my hilly run and found a great one on Courtney’s blog. I followed the treadmill routine exactly but upped the incline on the last five minutes. I then ran for another mile and cooled down ending with 5.16 miles.
By the time we got home it was already 7:30 and we were starving.
We grilled up some salmon burgers and heated up some broccoli.
009
011
012
Ezekiel sprouted grain with hummus, salmon burger with lettuce + tomato, and broccoli. So yum!
~~~~~

I think I need to get on a two-a-day blogging schedule because I don’t like having to catch up from all day yesterday and then this morning! Oh well it’s fine for now!

Today

I woke up and went over to the gym and completed a mile of HIIT on the treadmill and then completed about 18 minutes on the elliptical for some cross training. I did a minute forward with light resistance going faster and a minute backwards with higher resistance the entire time.

I then took my favorite body works class! Of course the instructor focused mostly on shoulders and triceps when that’s what I focused on Wednesday for my workout –___- It was still a great class though, loved it.

When I got home I was starving. My stomach was eating itself and I was craving eggs.

I heated up some spinach and tomatoes then tried to make an omelet.

013

014

I am the worst omelet maker in the world. I always mess it up! So it turned into scrambled eggs.

015

018

019

With half a whole wheat bagel and 1/2 laughing cow cheese.

016

I haven’t had bagels in forever but they were buy one get one free so I got some!

Now I’m off and ready to tackle the day. Homework and maybe some pool time is calling my name!

Catch you all later ❤

Do you like bagels?

Can you make a good omelet or do you mess it up like me?

For my bloggers, when’s your ideal blogging time?

Girly-ness and Guidelines

Happy Thursday! 😀

I hope you all enjoyed my WIAW post yesterday. I love reading everyone’s and discovering new blogs!

This is totally random but I painted my nails yesterday and I am in love with the color.

009

008

I have to be in the mood to wear red nail polish. I don’t know why but I got the craving to slap some on my nails so that I did 😉

I also actually got ready for school, instead of my usual comfy gym clothes. I swear I live in them.

It was nice to actually look like a girl for once, I really like getting dressed up but I am usually just way too lazy.

007

Jeans + the little over half sleeve sweater thing made me sweat like crazy in the FL heat, but it was worth it:D

005

004

Please don’t mind the stain on my boob. I’m pretty sure it was water, I’m just a slob –___-

The hair stayed up because there’s no point in frying it with the straightener for it to become an afro in .23 seconds.

Here is my breakfast from yesterday, since I didn’t post last night!

DSC01532

This looked pretty and I really wanted to put it on the blog. Although, you guys have probably seen cereal more times than you can count on your fingers. I’m getting MUCH better with my picture taking skills and I get excited when a picture comes out good!! 😀 Noob much?!

Workout

Yesterday was my strength training day plus the little bit of cardio I always do. I am ALWAYS looking for new strength training routines. What better way to find new and amazing ones than from BLOGS?!

I’m always looking out for ones that catch my eye and turns out Julie posted one here just a couple days ago that I wanted to try out.

I modified the treadmill routine though and it looked like this:

First of all, I walked the first two minutes and then accidently pulled the emergency plug. I do this ALL the time. So annoying!!! Not a big deal, it was only two minutes so I started over from the beginning.

I loved this! I felt really good today and strong. When I got to the gym (I went to my mini gym) both of the treadmills were taken so I actually did this run in between my strength training.

I completed Julie’s strength workout that complemented this run and added in a 50 squats and 50 plié squats right before the pushups.

I really felt the burn and I felt strong with my strength too!!

~~~~~~
I had to meet my mom at an apartment complex so we could look around. Our lease is up the end of October and we’re not sure if we want to stay here or move. Where we live now is a big expensive and it would be nice to get a cheaper price. On the other hand, we really love our unit and it feels home-y to us. So looking around will help us decide!
After going on the tour, my mom wanted Chinese food. I don’t eat it that often because I like eating home better and Chinese food usually has a lot of sodium but once in a while it’s a treat!
We ordered wonton soup to start, which I forgot to take a picture of.
Then we ordered chicken, steamed veggies, brown rice, and some sauce on the side.
011
It was actually super healthy and delicious 🙂
Things I knew when ordering at a Chinese restaurant:
  • Look for grilled or sautéed, not fried.
  • Steamed veggies, no oil.
  • Brown rice instead of white or fried.
  • Appetizers are usually fried so I skip (eggrolls for example).
  • Sauce on the side since they usually drown the food in it.
  • Lighter soups like wonton instead of the heavier ones.
  • Anything free usually isn’t too healthy but a small portion definitely won’t hurt!
Those are my main guidelines I follow! At any restaurant I do this too.
Now I’m off to school, then it’s weekend time baby!
Do you have guidelines to follow while eating out?
If you like nail polish, what’s your favorite color to wear?
Do you usually dress up or stay comfy?
WIAW
It’s party time once again! ;D
I usually post this earlier but I had two tests this morning that I did excellent in, thank you very much, so I was studying awayyyy.
Yesterday I woke up at the butt-crack of dawn and had some coffee of course followed by overnight oats. Never gets old! So handy for when you don’t have time to prep breakfast in the morning (aka yesterday).
DSC01366
I forgot to take a picture so these are recycled, shhh no one will know 😉 It’s exactly the same as the usual.
  • 1/2 banana, 1/2 peach
  • 1 mini activia yogurt
  • 1/3 C. Rolled Oats
  • 1/3 C. Almond milk
  • 1 tbs. chia seeds
  • Pinch of craisins
  • Dash vanilla
    • Dash cinnamon
    • Pinch shredded coconut
I was absolutely famished when I got home from school so I whipped up something quick.
I knew I wasn’t having dinner till later so I had a snack.
DSC01531
There were like 4 almonds left, so I added some peanuts, and Annie’s cheddar bunnies.
DSC01530
My mom got home from the gym a little later than usual so we whipped up something quick and easy.
Interval and Circuit
Yesterday after procrastinating getting some work done, I decided it was time for the gym! I was itching to get out of the house and get my sweat on. I’m always anxious to workout whenever I don’t complete it in the morning.
I started with an interval workout that looked like this:
Afterwards, I had printed out a few strength training workouts and I ended up using this one from Fitnessista. It was a circuit style workout and I absolutely loved it.
It was great and kept me sweating throughout the entire thing. I didn’t find myself bored like I get sometimes when I’m strength training on my own. I highly recommend it for those who get bored easily!
I came home, showered and got started on dinner. I took these pictures with my phone because I was too lazy to get up and get my camera.
Now I’m off to school for a nice day full of learning! I’ll be hitting up a spin class later in the day most likely. Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone!!
Do you like to do circuit workouts?
Do you get bored while strength training?
I’m Back!
Hello there everyone! I have returned !
I completely unplugged from blogging this past weekend because if you didn’t know I was up in Orlando for a friends birthday. I missed all of you, I have tons of blog catching up to do!
However, I had a GREAT weekend and am so happy that I got the chance for a little road trip. It was awesome to spend the weekend with my best friends and just have a good time.
I have tons of homework to catch up on as well so I will do a quick recap of my weekend. In all honesty, I didn’t many pictures of my food! =O I know, how dare I. I did take some before I left and once I got back!
I was only gone for two days and it feels like forever. Why does that happen? Anyways, I hope everyone had an amazing, relaxing weekend as well 😀
Lets back track.
Saturday’s pre-gym fuel I had a waffle with almond butter and banana. I didn’t want anything too heavy because I knew I was running and taking yoga.
003
Bentley was WAY past due for a grooming so I dropped him off on the way to the gym.
006
005
He was stressed out and didn’t want me to take pictures of him.
I went to the gym afterwards and completed a treadmill workout.
  • 1 minute- 5.0
  • 1 minute- 5.5
  • 1 minute- 6.0
  • 1 minute- 6.5
  • 1 minute- 7.0
  • 1 minute- 7.5
  • 1 minute- 8.0
  • 2 minutes- 4.5
  • Repeat 5 times or as many times as you’d like
I ended up changing it up a bit as time went on but that’s the base around what I did. In the end, I finished 4.81 miles. After my treadmill time, I had a yoga class that I was planning on attending.
007
We had a sub in the class from the usual instructor but it was still very good. She was a little more talkative but I got a good stretch and felt great afterward!
I came home to shower, pack, and eat lunch before getting pick up to get on the road.
009
One of the best salad beasts I’ve had in a while. Spinach, tomato, carrots, turkey, cheese, cottage cheese. Alongside a whole wheat pita with a bit of hummus.
010
I also had a new-to-me flavor of Kombucha! So good.
It was finally time for me to head out! The drive wasn’t bad at all, my two friends picked me up and drove while I lied down in the back and rested my eyes 😉
Picture recap of the weekend:
DSC01512
Obviously having a good time!
DSC01497
DSC01511
Holy hot and sweaty mess. It was super hot in the club but totally worth it.
Of course it ended up being a super late night, which is fine every once in a while. I mean come on, I am in college 😀
We woke up and had breakfast before hitting the road to go back home.
I fell asleep on the way home because going to bed at 5am then waking up at 8, then 10 am is not enough sleep for little ol’ me.
I came home and immediately took a shower and made some pita chips for a snack. I love making these homemade, so yummy dipped in hummus 🙂
For dinner, my mom and I made a beef and baby broccoli stir fry served over brown rice.
011
Absolutely deeelicious! So easy too. I love getting home from a weekend away to my home cooked, healthy food and my puppy.
I especially love my BED. I was so excited to sleep last night and slept like a baby.
I decided to sleep in this morning instead of waking up at 5 am to get a workout in. I am currently getting some homework done then I’m going to hit the gym for a strength training workout and probably some HIIT.
What was the best part of your weekend?
Do you like eating out and sleeping out or do you prefer your house?
Do you like to go out to clubs or are you a stay-in person?
Busy Day
Busy, busy, busy! I haven’t stopped since 5:30 this morning. I actually prefer being busy than laying around the house doing nothing. I guess it make me feel like I’m actually doing something with my life:)
This morning I seriously felt drugged when I woke up. Okay, maybe not that extreme but I couldn’t open my eyes and my vision was blurry and I just wanted to sleep for 76 more hours but couldn’t or I’d miss school. What a bummer that would be. I also couldn’t move my neck. I must have slept on it wrong!
I sprinted crawled to the coffee pot and poured myself a nice tall glass of iced coffee. Perfect.
DSC01396
This is taken with the lighting from my desk. It’s literally the worst light ever.
After getting ready (I totally wore gym clothes to school for the 3rd day in a row), I made myself another batch of pumpkin oats! But this time…
DSC01394 In a jar! Nice and warm and made the almond butter melt-y. This made me WAY TOO excited for fall. HURRY UP!
DSC01393
DSC01395
I got out of school a little later than usual but I had to stop at the car dealer on my way home. I took it in yesterday because it’s been needing a lot of repairs but the wheel is still shaky and I still hear the weird noise. It’s definitely better but not perfect. After thousands of dollars, I deserve it to be perfect!
My advisor told me to come back in an hour and a half so I flew home and decided to get in a quick workout before I had to go back.
I decided to complete this short but hilly incline workout at the mini gym in my apartment complex.
I modified it a bit. Where the speed was 3.5, I was at 4.0. Where the speed was at 3.0, I was at 3.8. Minutes 23-25, my speed was 4.0, incline 15. Then I walked for another 5 minutes or so. It was a good workout! Not too crazy but I definitely worked up a sweat!
I went home super fast and changed. That’s right people I didn’t shower. I had an excuse!
The OIAJ kept me full for 7 hours. I had a little snack before my run and then came home and made a yogurt bowl to-go. I had to be at the car dealer in 10 minutes. Late as usual, blah.
DSC01398
DSC01401
DSC01404
I am now at the dealership blogging and soon to be studying.
What’s foods do you like to take to-go?
When you have limited time do you do a short workout or skip altogether?
Thunderstorms and Treadmills
Friday night is always a good excuse to go out. After relaxing at the pool for a bit, my mom and I came home and got ready to go to dinner. We hadn’t been food shopping yet so we decided it might be nice to go out for a change. We don’t go out to eat all that often.
We decided to go a little north of where we live and go to a downtown area with restaurants and outdoor shopping. On the way up, the clouds started to roll in and within just a few minutes it was looking a bit scary.
Guess who forgot the umbrella? Of course. Luckily, we got inside a restaurant before the storm kicked into full gear.
How’s that for some clouds! We settled on Yard House because we have both never been there before and it seemed to have anything on the menu.
We sat on an outdoor patio which was completely covered but even before we got our food it started pouring and we started to get wet! We quickly moved to a booth in a corner of the outdoor patio and that was much better. Sorry but I’m not down to get wet during dinner.
We got quite a light show! The thunder was CRAZY it was one of the worst thunder storms I’ve seen in a while.
We started off with a appetizer salads.
We only had the option of Caesar or Ranch because we added it onto our entrées. I chose the caesar but ordered oil and vinegar on the side as my dressing. Caesar can be a bit thick and tangy for my liking.
For my entrée, I ordered a Chicken Veggie bowl with Brown Rice.
It had bok choy, celery, red and green peppers, broccoli, mini corn, mushrooms, snap peas, and some other stuff and the rice is under there somewhere. A bunch of veggies is my kind of meal:)
The portion size was enormous so I ended up taking about half of it home.
This morning I wanted to get in my weekly yoga and saw there was a class at 11. I went a little early and completed 40 minutes on the treadmill. I ended up mixing incline walking, jogging, and sprinting all in one.
I was a sweaty beast after this and I forgot my towel. What is up with me lately? Who knows but I’m sure the clean, nice smelling people in yoga didn’t really appreciate me sweating like a monster Smile
I loved the yoga class I took. Every time I leave yoga I feel so good and tell myself I NEED to do it more! That will be a new goal of mine, I’m determined.
The instructor started off with Thai Chi. It focuses on the breathing and movements and it’s just so smooth and refreshing it was such a great warm up. You can’t do Thai Chi wrong as long as you are moving and breathing.
She did core work, hip openers which was amazing because I was sore, balancing which is my favorite, glutes and hamstrings, and other yoga poses. The class closed out with meditation and although my mind was going a mile a minute I was imagining myself in Malibu, California and it was very relaxing I almost fell asleep. It was so refreshing.
After the gym we had a couple of stops to make, and since we had a very light breakfast we decided to stop somewhere for a salad before heading out. We ended up at Field of Greens which we were just at a few weeks ago.
Mixed greens, tomatoes, walnuts, raisins, gorgonzola cheese, chopped apples, and celery. Something about fruit, nuts, cheese, and dried fruit is amazing. Deeeelish.
We finally went food shopping, to target, and a couple of other things and now I’m relaxing inside because another thunderstorm is on it’s way.
What is your ideal salad?
What is the weather like wherever you live?
Has anyone done Thai Chi before?
