Strength and Treadmill Mix-up

Yesterday’s workout called for some strength training. I look forward to my strength training, which I do Monday, Wednesday, Friday. As much as I love cardio, I really love the feeling after a great workout with some weights. I feel strong:)

012

I always make sure to do a bit of cardio though to really get my heart pumpin’. I saw this treadmill workout on Lindsay’s blog and thought it looked like a good mix of intervals and hills. I ended up switching it around though and doing the intervals first then the hills second and shortened the time. My workout ended up looking like this.

After my workout, it was time for dinner of course.

My mom is sick (sore throat, etc.) I hope I don’t get sick, blah.

So she made some soup. I had a cup of tomato with this bowl of protein.009

Looks gross but tasted good. Beans, edamame, tomatoes, cottage cheese, turkey.

011

Pretty much a salad without the lettuce because I was way too lazy to cut and wash the lettuce 🙂

Quick and Easy

030

Bentley was being extra cute today and I had a photo shoot. What else is new? I need a life.

027

I look drunk here but it was only 2 pm people, who do you think I am. He looks cute though so it’s worth embarrassing myself.

029

031

This is the “enough with the pictures lady you’re getting on my nerves” face that he gives me way too often.

~~~~~
For a part 1 of lunch, I tried the new Chocolate Chip Cherry Torte Lara bar.
023
Lara Bar did NOT contact me to review this, I just love sharing what I enjoy with all of you! 😀
I loved this flavor. I definitely was not disappointed!
After getting home a little while later, I whipped up a new smoothie.
024
  • 1 C. Almond Milk
  • 4 Frozen Strawberries
  • A few pineapple chunks
  • 3/4 C. Frozen Mango
  • 1/2 Frozen Banana
  • 1 scoop Vanilla protein powder
  • 1 pinch shredded coconut
  • 1 pinch xanthan gum
  • A couple drops of Agave Nectar
I basically threw random stuff into the blender and it came out pretty delicious. Definitely a success to me 🙂 Topped with some Kashi Heart to Heart.
After a nice boring day full of school, homework and procrastination productivity, it was time for me to get my sweat on ;D
I don’t know about you guys but whenever I do not get to the gym in the mornings, I am really itching for a workout later in the day. Since all my classes are super early and require about an hour of commuting, I have only been able to workout in the evenings.
I haven’t been minding it though because it’s nice to not be rushed in the mornings and by the time I get to the gym, I have my game face on and am ready to do work!
It used to be the other way around, the longer I wait, the lazier I get. Which is still true I guess it just depends on the day and the mood I’m in.
I started with Courtney’s Quickie 20 minute workout that I saw on her blog this morning. Loved it! I even got my mom running a bit with me! (She has bad knees and running usually hurts her). I then trained my mom with a circuit workout from Gina (Fitnessista). Love that workout too!
~~~~~

Dinner was easy but yummy as usual. I guess that’s how I roll! I’m not very good at coming up with recipes. Plus if I’m starving then quick and easy is the way to go.

035

Grilled chicken, sweet potato, peas. I don’t think I could ever get tired of sweet potatoes.

I just finished watching the Gossip Girl season premiere. I DIED! Any fans out there?

Now it’s shower time, maybe some more homework, then bed a little early. Tomorrow’s wake-up call is an extra early one!

Hope everyone has a great night 😀

What’d you have for dinner?

Do you like Gossip Girl?

Favorite Lara Bar?

Do you like quick and easy or longer recipes?

Catching Up and Cuteness

Good morning to you all and TGIF! ;D

I figured I’d start off today’s post with some cuteness. Be prepared people, it may take your breath away.

This is my Friday favorite. Well actually every second of my life favorite but same thing.

001

I LOVE when Bentley does this. When he’s acting like a baby, I pick him up and he hugs me and rests his head on my shoulder. I had to capture the moment<3

004

005

PERFECT EXAMPLE right here. I die.

Oh and a little bit of modeling occurred.

006

008

Look at that face. Sometimes I think he is a stuffed animal because he is so beautiful. He should be a dog model, for sure. Winking smile

Last night I was going to post but I got way to distracted by Grey’s Anatomy two hour season premier!

Greys-Anatomy-Season-7

jesse-williams-shirtless

Whoops how’d that get in there? ;D Nuff said.

~~~~~
Anyway, time to catch you all up on what I did yesterday. I didn’t get to the gym till about 6 pm last night. That’s super late for me! I usually like to workout in the mornings but my early classes have been preventing me from doing so.
I also had to look at some more apartments before working out so that’s why I got there late. It was still a great workout!
Thursday’s are my cardio-only days so I do about an hour. I like to split up my running into HIIT, speed, steady, and hilly. Yesterday I decided to do my hilly run and found a great one on Courtney’s blog. I followed the treadmill routine exactly but upped the incline on the last five minutes. I then ran for another mile and cooled down ending with 5.16 miles.
By the time we got home it was already 7:30 and we were starving.
We grilled up some salmon burgers and heated up some broccoli.
009
011
012
Ezekiel sprouted grain with hummus, salmon burger with lettuce + tomato, and broccoli. So yum!
~~~~~

I think I need to get on a two-a-day blogging schedule because I don’t like having to catch up from all day yesterday and then this morning! Oh well it’s fine for now!

Today

I woke up and went over to the gym and completed a mile of HIIT on the treadmill and then completed about 18 minutes on the elliptical for some cross training. I did a minute forward with light resistance going faster and a minute backwards with higher resistance the entire time.

I then took my favorite body works class! Of course the instructor focused mostly on shoulders and triceps when that’s what I focused on Wednesday for my workout –___- It was still a great class though, loved it.

When I got home I was starving. My stomach was eating itself and I was craving eggs.

I heated up some spinach and tomatoes then tried to make an omelet.

013

014

I am the worst omelet maker in the world. I always mess it up! So it turned into scrambled eggs.

015

018

019

With half a whole wheat bagel and 1/2 laughing cow cheese.

016

I haven’t had bagels in forever but they were buy one get one free so I got some!

Now I’m off and ready to tackle the day. Homework and maybe some pool time is calling my name!

Catch you all later ❤

Do you like bagels?

Can you make a good omelet or do you mess it up like me?

For my bloggers, when’s your ideal blogging time?

Any grey’s anatomy fans? 😀

Girly-ness and Guidelines

Happy Thursday! 😀

I hope you all enjoyed my WIAW post yesterday. I love reading everyone’s and discovering new blogs!

This is totally random but I painted my nails yesterday and I am in love with the color.

009

008

I have to be in the mood to wear red nail polish. I don’t know why but I got the craving to slap some on my nails so that I did 😉

I also actually got ready for school, instead of my usual comfy gym clothes. I swear I live in them.

It was nice to actually look like a girl for once, I really like getting dressed up but I am usually just way too lazy.

007

Jeans + the little over half sleeve sweater thing made me sweat like crazy in the FL heat, but it was worth it:D

005

004

Please don’t mind the stain on my boob. I’m pretty sure it was water, I’m just a slob –___-

The hair stayed up because there’s no point in frying it with the straightener for it to become an afro in .23 seconds.

Here is my breakfast from yesterday, since I didn’t post last night!

DSC01532

DSC01534

This looked pretty and I really wanted to put it on the blog. Although, you guys have probably seen cereal more times than you can count on your fingers. I’m getting MUCH better with my picture taking skills and I get excited when a picture comes out good!! 😀 Noob much?!

Workout

Yesterday was my strength training day plus the little bit of cardio I always do. I am ALWAYS looking for new strength training routines. What better way to find new and amazing ones than from BLOGS?!

I’m always looking out for ones that catch my eye and turns out Julie posted one here just a couple days ago that I wanted to try out.

I modified the treadmill routine though and it looked like this:

First of all, I walked the first two minutes and then accidently pulled the emergency plug. I do this ALL the time. So annoying!!! Not a big deal, it was only two minutes so I started over from the beginning.

I loved this! I felt really good today and strong. When I got to the gym (I went to my mini gym) both of the treadmills were taken so I actually did this run in between my strength training.

I completed Julie’s strength workout that complemented this run and added in a 50 squats and 50 plié squats right before the pushups.

I really felt the burn and I felt strong with my strength too!!

~~~~~~
I had to meet my mom at an apartment complex so we could look around. Our lease is up the end of October and we’re not sure if we want to stay here or move. Where we live now is a big expensive and it would be nice to get a cheaper price. On the other hand, we really love our unit and it feels home-y to us. So looking around will help us decide!
After going on the tour, my mom wanted Chinese food. I don’t eat it that often because I like eating home better and Chinese food usually has a lot of sodium but once in a while it’s a treat!
We ordered wonton soup to start, which I forgot to take a picture of.
Then we ordered chicken, steamed veggies, brown rice, and some sauce on the side.
011
It was actually super healthy and delicious 🙂
Things I knew when ordering at a Chinese restaurant:
  • Look for grilled or sautéed, not fried.
  • Steamed veggies, no oil.
  • Brown rice instead of white or fried.
  • Appetizers are usually fried so I skip (eggrolls for example).
  • Sauce on the side since they usually drown the food in it.
  • Lighter soups like wonton instead of the heavier ones.
  • Anything free usually isn’t too healthy but a small portion definitely won’t hurt!
Those are my main guidelines I follow! At any restaurant I do this too.
Now I’m off to school, then it’s weekend time baby!
Do you have guidelines to follow while eating out?
If you like nail polish, what’s your favorite color to wear?
Do you usually dress up or stay comfy?
Interval and Circuit
Yesterday after procrastinating getting some work done, I decided it was time for the gym! I was itching to get out of the house and get my sweat on. I’m always anxious to workout whenever I don’t complete it in the morning.
I started with an interval workout that looked like this:
Afterwards, I had printed out a few strength training workouts and I ended up using this one from Fitnessista. It was a circuit style workout and I absolutely loved it.
It was great and kept me sweating throughout the entire thing. I didn’t find myself bored like I get sometimes when I’m strength training on my own. I highly recommend it for those who get bored easily!
I came home, showered and got started on dinner. I took these pictures with my phone because I was too lazy to get up and get my camera.
Now I’m off to school for a nice day full of learning! I’ll be hitting up a spin class later in the day most likely. Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone!!
I’m Back!
Hello there everyone! I have returned !
I completely unplugged from blogging this past weekend because if you didn’t know I was up in Orlando for a friends birthday. I missed all of you, I have tons of blog catching up to do!
However, I had a GREAT weekend and am so happy that I got the chance for a little road trip. It was awesome to spend the weekend with my best friends and just have a good time.
I have tons of homework to catch up on as well so I will do a quick recap of my weekend. In all honesty, I didn’t many pictures of my food! =O I know, how dare I. I did take some before I left and once I got back!
I was only gone for two days and it feels like forever. Why does that happen? Anyways, I hope everyone had an amazing, relaxing weekend as well 😀
Lets back track.
Saturday’s pre-gym fuel I had a waffle with almond butter and banana. I didn’t want anything too heavy because I knew I was running and taking yoga.
003
Bentley was WAY past due for a grooming so I dropped him off on the way to the gym.
006
005
He was stressed out and didn’t want me to take pictures of him.
I went to the gym afterwards and completed a treadmill workout.
  • 1 minute- 5.0
  • 1 minute- 5.5
  • 1 minute- 6.0
  • 1 minute- 6.5
  • 1 minute- 7.0
  • 1 minute- 7.5
  • 1 minute- 8.0
  • 2 minutes- 4.5
  • Repeat 5 times or as many times as you’d like
I ended up changing it up a bit as time went on but that’s the base around what I did. In the end, I finished 4.81 miles. After my treadmill time, I had a yoga class that I was planning on attending.
007
We had a sub in the class from the usual instructor but it was still very good. She was a little more talkative but I got a good stretch and felt great afterward!
I came home to shower, pack, and eat lunch before getting pick up to get on the road.
009
One of the best salad beasts I’ve had in a while. Spinach, tomato, carrots, turkey, cheese, cottage cheese. Alongside a whole wheat pita with a bit of hummus.
010
I also had a new-to-me flavor of Kombucha! So good.
It was finally time for me to head out! The drive wasn’t bad at all, my two friends picked me up and drove while I lied down in the back and rested my eyes 😉
Picture recap of the weekend:
All the girls before going out. We ended up going to a club called Bliss in downtown Orlando. It was a little smaller than I expected but still such a fun time!
DSC01512
Obviously having a good time!
DSC01497
DSC01511
Holy hot and sweaty mess. It was super hot in the club but totally worth it.
Of course it ended up being a super late night, which is fine every once in a while. I mean come on, I am in college 😀
We woke up and had breakfast before hitting the road to go back home.
I fell asleep on the way home because going to bed at 5am then waking up at 8, then 10 am is not enough sleep for little ol’ me.
I came home and immediately took a shower and made some pita chips for a snack. I love making these homemade, so yummy dipped in hummus 🙂
For dinner, my mom and I made a beef and baby broccoli stir fry served over brown rice.
011
Absolutely deeelicious! So easy too. I love getting home from a weekend away to my home cooked, healthy food and my puppy.
I especially love my BED. I was so excited to sleep last night and slept like a baby.
I decided to sleep in this morning instead of waking up at 5 am to get a workout in. I am currently getting some homework done then I’m going to hit the gym for a strength training workout and probably some HIIT.
What was the best part of your weekend?
Do you like eating out and sleeping out or do you prefer your house?
Do you like to go out to clubs or are you a stay-in person?
Busy Day
Busy, busy, busy! I haven’t stopped since 5:30 this morning. I actually prefer being busy than laying around the house doing nothing. I guess it make me feel like I’m actually doing something with my life:)
This morning I seriously felt drugged when I woke up. Okay, maybe not that extreme but I couldn’t open my eyes and my vision was blurry and I just wanted to sleep for 76 more hours but couldn’t or I’d miss school. What a bummer that would be. I also couldn’t move my neck. I must have slept on it wrong!
I sprinted crawled to the coffee pot and poured myself a nice tall glass of iced coffee. Perfect.
DSC01396
This is taken with the lighting from my desk. It’s literally the worst light ever.
After getting ready (I totally wore gym clothes to school for the 3rd day in a row), I made myself another batch of pumpkin oats! But this time…
DSC01394 In a jar! Nice and warm and made the almond butter melt-y. This made me WAY TOO excited for fall. HURRY UP!
DSC01393
DSC01395
I got out of school a little later than usual but I had to stop at the car dealer on my way home. I took it in yesterday because it’s been needing a lot of repairs but the wheel is still shaky and I still hear the weird noise. It’s definitely better but not perfect. After thousands of dollars, I deserve it to be perfect!
My advisor told me to come back in an hour and a half so I flew home and decided to get in a quick workout before I had to go back.
I decided to complete this short but hilly incline workout at the mini gym in my apartment complex.
I modified it a bit. Where the speed was 3.5, I was at 4.0. Where the speed was at 3.0, I was at 3.8. Minutes 23-25, my speed was 4.0, incline 15. Then I walked for another 5 minutes or so. It was a good workout! Not too crazy but I definitely worked up a sweat!
I went home super fast and changed. That’s right people I didn’t shower. I had an excuse!
The OIAJ kept me full for 7 hours. I had a little snack before my run and then came home and made a yogurt bowl to-go. I had to be at the car dealer in 10 minutes. Late as usual, blah.
DSC01398
DSC01401
DSC01404
Greek yogurt, 1/2 peach, 1/2 banana, granola, raisins, pinch of coconut.
I am now at the dealership blogging and soon to be studying.
What’s foods do you like to take to-go?
When you have limited time do you do a short workout or skip altogether?
Way too Indecisive
Five miles makes you feel so good!
I love the feeling after a great workout. Today was my cardio-only day and I knew I wanted to run. The weather was rainy today though so I opted for the treadmill in the mini gym I go to sometimes when I don’t feel like driving to the real gym.
I had a bunch of treadmill workouts printed out and written down because lets face it, the treadmill can get pretty boring.
I found this workout on Julie’s blog and decided to give it a try. Since I am a little sore from yesterday’s workout, I figured starting off with walking would be a good idea.
I changed up the speeds and inclines a bit to my liking and ended up running from minute 45 to complete a full hour.
It was a great workout and time definitely flew by! I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a new treadmill routine.
After getting home, and chillin in my sweaty clothes waiting for my mother to come home, I got started on dinner.
We didn’t have much of a variety in the protein department but we had shrimp and decided to make a shrimp and broccoli pasta with sauce.
DSC01286
I loved the pasta with the broccoli but honestly the shrimp was a little too fishy for my liking. I had to peel the shrimp before we cooked it and I’m convinced that’s why they tasted weird. There’s just something about peeling off little legs that completely freak me out.
DSC01289
It was still a good meal, I ate it anyway.
DSC01288
This morning I had another wake-up call around 5 am. Since my first class starts at 8 am and I commute, I have to leave an hour before hand.
I also don’t like to be rushed and I like to take my time getting ready so I’ve been waking up extra early. I am finally getting used to it though! Coffee helps.
Once it becomes a regular routine, it’s really not all that bad. The days when my class starts at 9:30 am, I either wake up at 5 and get a workout in, or I sleep in if I really need it; which has been a lot lately.
If you’re ever thinking about becoming an early riser for any reason, especially to workout, try it for a week or two and it will get easier. It takes time!
I didn’t take a picture of my breakfast this morning because it wasn’t all that interesting plus I was on a time crunch. I had cereal for lunch. How much more boring can I get? Sheesh Winking smile That was what my body was craving though so I gave it what it wanted!
~~~

Once I was home from school I contemplated going to the gym right away or to go a little later.

I completely forgot that I had a Skype meeting with an academic advisor at UCF.

Now, if any of you have read my blog since I first started it, very early on I noted that I had transferred home FROM UCF this semester. You can read about it here.

You see the last line, “I can always transfer back to UCF next semester if I can’t stand it here, but right now this is where I am and I’ll take it one day at a time”?

Well um, I’m going back.

The school I’m at now isn’t all that bad, but I’m just not loving over it. The campus is alright, my classes are fine, but nothing is really good. I feel like I shouldn’t be here.

I knew I chose UCF in the first place for a reason. I loved the campus, loved my classes, and loved the school in general. However, my first year I went through a lot of tough times. Many unfortunate things happened to me that year, which I want to keep personal right now, but overall it just wasn’t a great year. I imagined my first year being amazing and absolutely loving college.

When I went up to UCF in the summer before fall of last year, I absolutely LOVED it. Everything about it was amazing and I never thought that I would ever want to leave. Well that was before all the unfortunate things happened to me.

I do have the option of staying where I’m at, finishing the year, then transferring to a totally different school the next. I also have the option of moving back to UCF in the spring and continuing my education there. The good thing is, I’m still technically enrolled so I will NOT have to re-apply. I just have to transfer my credits and loans over to the school.

When I think about if I should go back or if I should wait it out and go somewhere else, I just get a gut feeling that I should go back to UCF. I do miss it, and I don’t think I gave it enough of a chance. I do feel as if I should have stayed and tried it out again, instead of transferring home this fall, but you live and you learn. Obviously I learned that I shouldn’t just jump at any opportunities because of my feelings and wants at the moment.

The quote, “Don’t make promises when you’re happy, and don’t make decisions when you’re angry,” really relates to me now. When I decided to move back home for the year (or now going to be semester), I was angry and upset. I was upset that college wasn’t what I thought it would be that year, I was angry about the unfortunate things that happened to me throughout the year, and I was upset that the year wasn’t the same as when I first got to UCF in the summer.

I didn’t really know what to make of it and I kept thinking “what if”. What if next year is the same as this year? What if I hate it again and I’m stuck here? What if I want to go to another college? That “what if” gets me every time.

I want to go to a college where it is perfect for my major. My problem? I still don’t know what to major in. However, UCF seems to fit my general interests of what I will possibly major in. It doesn’t hurt that I have a good amount of friends up there either. I have a few of my best friends as well which is awesome.

I don’t know if I am making the right decision, again, but that’s what being young is for. Can you tell I am WAY TOO INDECISIVE? I need to learn how to make my own decisions and figure out for myself what is right and what is not. As of now, transferring back to UCF just feels right. That to me, is the most important.

I’m sorry this got SO wordy! I just had to get it off my chest and I thought what better way than to share it with my awesome blog readers Open-mouthed smile

Are you indecisive?

Do you go with your feelings or your thoughts?

Do you wake up early just to get a workout in or do it later on when you have the time?

Where did it go?

Honestly, I cannot believe it’s already 5:30. This day just flew by!

Seeing as I was out and about all day could be the reason why. Lets Rewind.

This morning I trekked over to the gym because I wanted to take a full body works class. I like taking the classes especially on my “light weight” days because the instructor usually does a TON of reps.

Let me tell ya, I was feelin’ the burn in my upper body today!

Before I went into the class, I hopped on the treadmill to complete a 3 mile run.

I decided I wanted to switch it up today so I made up my own run as I went!

Once I got home, I did some work on the blog. New look ooh yeah!

I’m finally getting the hang of all of this. Patience Smile

Anyway, I had errands to run and was expecting it to be rainy but it was actually clear skies.

I woke up last night at 4am to a war of the worlds type storm and was surprised that it cleared away so fast.

I stopped into whole foods for some stuff, even though it can be dangerous whenever I go in there I controlled myself. I just want to buy everything.

I got home around 3pm and hadn’t had lunch yet.

If you read my WIAW post, I mentioned how I tried to come up with a new smoothie and failed. Horribly. I had to dump it out because it was gross.

I figured today I could give it another shot.

Holy Yum.

So glad I did.

 Into the blender went:

1/2 packet of Jay Robb Strawberry Whey Protein

I saw this in Whole Foods and I always want to try new protein powders so I picked it up. It was amazing! Loved it, highly recommended.

1/2 Banana

1 to 1 1/4 C. Almond Milk

Handful of blueberries

Handful of spinach

Pinch Xanthan Gum

5 ice cubs

It was really refreshing and tasted like a fruity lighter milkshake.

What was your workout today?

Do you like milkshake-like or fruity smoothies?

If you like Piña Colada’s, and Getting Caught in the Rain

Okay, so I didn’t have any pina colada’s today but unfortunately I did get caught in a monsoon! I decided to go for a short run this afternoon and did 2 easy miles and actually ended up walking the last .2 or so. Although, I did have to sprint back home because of the weather. Once I got home I only had one thing on my mind, and that was a smoothie. I whipped out my blender and decided to make something a little different than usual. I only have a chocolate protein powder right now so all my smoothies have been chocolate, which was fine with me today. Into the blender went :

5 ice cubes
3/4 scoop chocolate protein powder
1 Tablespoon unsweet cocoa powder
1 frozen banana
2 teaspoon dried cherries
2 teaspoon cherry preserves
enough unsweet vanilla almond milk
tsp. xanthan gum

May not look too great, but it tasted good. It was more chocolate-y than cherry so you can use a little more cherry! But the combo was really good and creamy.

Afterwards I sat around like a lazy bum got a few things done around the house and then decided that I wanted to do a little more of a workout. I usually go to the gym later on Tuesday’s so I met my mom over at LA Fitness. I took two workouts one from Courtney and one from Fitnessista. I really don’t know why, but I ended up mixing the two workouts together and ended up with my own little spin. Honestly, it was really random and all over the place but it worked Smile

I ended up covering 5.30 miles with this workout. My legs actually felt heavy today but I was walking really fast and it didn’t feel too fast which was weird. On the other hand, it was a great treadmill workout and made time fly by! Love when that happens. Now I’m on #Fitblog which is hosted by Katelyn, and then I’m going to prep coffee for the morning and read The Help before getting to bed! I have a great recipe to share tomorrow, so stay tuned Smile

Question:

Do you feel like you have to switch it up on the treadmill?

Do you like hills or sprints better?

Like or dislike the rain?
