Love Grown Granola : Final Review

Thank you all so much for your kind words about my grandma. She is stubborn but all that matters is she’s okay 🙂 I will definitely let you all know recipes I use with the peanut flour and PB2 when the time comes.

Quinoa Squash Balsamic Maple Glaze

Too bad I didn’t have an acorn squash to make it look as cool. Instead, I had regular squash so I sautéed them in the pan instead of the brussels. The brussel sprouts were actually microwaveable (shhhh…) and I threw them in at the last minute with the chickpeas.

Oh my gosh, I loved this. The sauce was super yummy and everything just blended perfectly. I’ve been looking for a new quinoa recipe and this was a winner. You all need to make it ASAP.

I do not consider workout/yoga clothes fashion, AT ALL. In fact, I consider it “scrubbbin” but since this is my favorite top I thought I’d share. I got this top at TJ Maxx surprisingly, and I love it. It’s stretchy, comfy, and I love the color:) They had so much workout wear there!

Finally! So you may or may not know, but I got the chance to try out Love Grown Granola. I told you all I’d share my final thoughts on the products I received.

Beside the fact that they have an amazing story and passion, their products are all natural, gluten free, and free of anything unprocessed.

I try to eat mostly all unprocessed foods so this was perfect to read 🙂

My final verdict? Officially… OBSESSED.

Yeah, I said it. Each and every bag is almost gone. Already.

Mind you, I got this package exactly a week ago. (My mom has been eating it too so I’m not that crazy).

I LOVED the little pieces of apple. It went perfectly with the coconut sheets and it was the perfect amount of sweetness and nuttiness.

Put raisins and almond together in one product? I am all over that. I think that is one of the best combos in the world and throw it in granola with coconut? I’m pretty sure I have no further explaining to do 🙂

Sweet Cranberry Pecan

This. was. my. favorite. I love anything cranberry. For some reason cranberries in granola is x20948299238 better than anything else with cranberries. I don’t normally eat pecans all that much but I think this bag made me want to eat them more. The pecans and cranberries were perfect together. They complemented each other so well and it was all around delicious.

Simply Oats

How can you go wrong with regular granola? You can’t. It is perfect to mix with anything your little heart desires. Any flavor granola, mix it in with cereal, put it on top of a baked good, the possibilities are endless. Loved the flavor of this just as much as the others.

 

As you all can see, I clearly hated every second of tasting this granola. Just. Kidding. It’s obvious how much I LOVED it all Winking smile

I give it a 100 out of 10. Hint: you all need to go get some.

New Goodies and a Scare

Good afternoon 😀 I thought I’d start this post with a picture of a very beautiful creature. What else is new? I’m obsessed and convinced I need to go to doggie rehab.

Whew, I feel like I have a lot to talk about! I take a mini break from blogging to try and be a good student to study for a test, but then it backfires and I feel like I have missed too much 🙂

Lets start with yesterday shall we?

A couple of days ago, I decided to order something of iHerb. I had never ordered anything from there but have been wanting to try a few things. I decided not to go way too overboard and only order two things.

PB2 and peanut flour. Yes, they are both from the peanut family which I didn’t even notice until after I made the purchase. What can I say? I love peanut butter:)

Peanut flour is a flower made from peanuts which is gluten free and has a very high protein content. I am excited to try it!

PB2 on the other hand, is peanut butter in powder form. It has the fat and oil removed from it and is only 45 calories for 2 tablespoons.

I have only tried the PB2 so far. My verdict? It’s pretty good, but as a hardcore peanut butter lover, it isn’t my favorite. I love how you can eat peanut butter straight from a spoon, whereas PB2 has pretty much the same taste but not the same. If ya know what I mean. Nothing really compares to the real thang 😉 I still like it though, and will definitely make use of it, trust me!

iHerb also added in a few extra goodies into the package which I was not expecting.

I didn’t get to the gym till around 6 pm last night which is a lot later than usual for me. Yesterday was my strength training day so my mom and I did 20 minutes on the treadmill to start. I completed this hilly workout but cut out the first five minutes. It’s a good one! Afterwards, we completed this strength routine that I came up with beforehand.

For the combined sets, you do the workouts simultaneously. For the supersets, you do them one after the other then rest. Each workout is 15 reps, 3 sets.

  • Combined Set 1- Deadlift + Upright Row with a Calf Raise. Basically you do the deadlift and go straight into the upright row on your toes, then repeat.
  • Superset 2- Squat swing with a dumbell (like kettle bell) with a jump + Bicep 21s.
  • Combined Set 3- One arm overhead shoulder press + Lunge (use the same leg, same shoulder).
  • Superset 4- Chest Press + Triceps (overhead)
  • Set 5- 1 minute regular plank, 30 second right side plank, 30 second left side plank.

Short but effective workout. Just how I like it.

Fast forward to this morning:

I was up late last night and up early as well studying for my midterm. My mom decided to be super nice and make me breakfast 😀

Omelet, a piece of ww toast with some butter, and a mini turkey sausage. Perfect fuel for my test, and a good change up from my regular weekday oats or yogurt.

I finished my test in 20 minutes. Seriously. But now it is the weekend so that made me super happy:)

After class I had a good hour or so before the Bikram yoga class I wanted to take. My tummy was rumbling so I decided to make myself a snack to fill me up, but not be too heavy.

I didn’t have ground flax for the “flax egg” but I decided to use wheat germ instead. I do not think they relate to each other in any way but I didn’t know what else to do. My stomach was yelling at me to hurry up and who the f cares how I make the flax egg. I decided to roll with it and it still came out good!! Maybe a little soft, but yummy nonetheless.

Anything with pumpkin is bound to be delicious. I topped it with some PB2 (much better on this muffin than alone), cherry preserves, and shredded coconut. YUM! The perfect amount for before yoga. Thanks again Chelsey 😀

Family Scare

Once I got into my car after yoga, I had a missed call and a text from my mom. It said that my grandma was in the hospital. I immediately freaked out, pretty much hyperventilated, and called my mom 792 times with no answer. I just sat there and prayed to God she was alright and to please watch over her.

My mom finally called me back and sounded normal. I was expecting hysterically crying, yelling, something but nope she sounded fine. I was confused and she told me that my grandma just had surgery done for her cataracts without telling us. I burst into tears (mind you, I NEVER cry) and told my mom I thought she had a heart attack, was dying, or something very severe. My mom kind of chuckled and felt really bad that she scared me but I just thanked God that she was okay.

My grandma is VERY stubborn and does not like to rely on anyone for anything. She grew up constantly taking care of her younger sister and was pretty much the authority figure. She refuses to ask us for anything, but always gives us everything. My grandma is my hero and I look up to her in so many ways. I know she knows how much I appreciate everything she has done for me, but I need to take more time to really show her how much I care. It is a very littler thing compared to all she has done.

This scare just made me realize that I NEED to start calling her every day. I also need to start calling my Dad and Brother more too. Sometimes we go weeks without talking to each other AT ALL. At least I talk to my brother via twitter and facebook (sad I know) and my mom I live with, but I barely ever hear from my dad or my grandma.

You never really know when something could happen, or when your life, or a loved ones life could come to an end. I really don’t mean to end this post on an upsetting note, but it is definitely something to think about.

New Goal: Call my loved ones A LOT more often. Tell them I love them everyday 🙂 Fam[ily] is everything. Blood is thicker than water.

This post ended up being SUPER long, thanks to those of you who read through it! I know my attention span is like a goldfish’s at times (.25 milliseconds), so I’m sure some of you are the same.

A Nice Surprise!

Surprise!! My brother drove down from Tallahassee yesterday and wanted to surprise my mom and I. Too bad he posted a status on Facebook before he left. Come on, like we wouldn’t see that? haha!

Still a nice surprise and I’m glad he’s here! We barely ever see him now a days since he lives almost 7 hours away. TOO FAR! I love my bro, so happy we are close 🙂 Obviously that picture is old because I am BLONDE.

Last night he didn’t get to our house till about 8:30, so we had a late dinner. My mom and I snacked all throughout the evening but not too much because we still had appetites for a yummy dinner.

My mom also got a Key Lime Pie because that is my brothers favorite dessert. My mom goes nuts with the food whenever Brendan comes down. She acts like he is a starving college kid that only eats crumbs while away.

I honestly don’t even really like Key Lime Pie but I had a sliver. If I’m having dessert, I usually want it to be extra chocolate-y!

We hung out for a bit then went off to bed around midnight. This morning I got to sleep in till about 9:30! I surprised myself when I woke up that late. It is a dreary day here today so maybe that helped:)

I was planning on taking Bikram again today but honestly woke up with a very sore gluteus maximus so I decided today could be my rest day instead of tomorrow. I think it is a good idea because I woke up with a pounding sinus headache. Thanks a lot yucky weather =/

After taking Bentley on a nice long walk, we got started on brunch. It was around 11:30 by the time we ate! Still breakfast but just later than usual.

Yoga, Eats, and Fashion

Hey everyone!

I feel like I haven’t posted in years but it has only been since yesterday morning. I’ll use today’s post to catch up on what I haven’t shared with you all the past couple of days.

Tuesday night I did something new to me. Bikram Yoga. For those of you who have no idea what it is, basically it is yoga that goes through 26 “bikram poses” in a HOT room. I mean hot people, as in over 100 degrees hot. You can read more about it here.

I’ve been dying to try it and have heard of all the benefits and how great it is. I have seen it on Clare’s blog many times and it has sparked my interest.

Turns out there is a studio near my house so I went and they had a great beginners special. I paid for my first class and then ended up deciding that it was worth it to buy the special. Two weeks unlimited yoga for only $50. Not to shabby!

I am going to take bikram about 3 times a week for the next two weeks. I know they say you need to take it a lot more in order to get the “full benefits” but for now that is fine with me. In between days, I am going to do my usual weights + a bit of cardio session. I love my longer runs on Tues and Thurs normally, but I want a change and a challenge! So I will get back to that in two weeks!!

I don’t want to go too into detail because I want to write a recap post about my final thoughts on the class. In that post I will go into detail about how I felt, if I love it or hate it, etc.

I’ll give you guys a hint though: I survived and have gone more than once so far 🙂

I woke up to this little booger barking his head off.

Don’t be fooled by that innocent little face. Lately when he wants something he barks until he gets it. Of course I’m a pushover so I give him what he wants. Now he’s smart enough to know that will always work. He’s so spoiled!

I slept like a baby because I got new pillows yesterday. Best decision of my life. Well until I make another great decision, but for now it is awesome to me.

Today is my REST DAY. After a week of working out hard, it’s nice to have my rest day on Sunday’s so I can fully enjoy the day and let my muscles rest and get stronger.

Last night mi madre and I went to a new campus of our church. It was nice and just as good, but I like our main one better! The main one has the pastor right in front of you whereas this campus shows him on the screen. This campus is closer to us though and it was nice to check out a new environment.

We didn’t get out of church till around 7:30 and we were super hungry. The thought of driving home about 15 minutes away and then cooking just wasn’t appealing to us the slightest bit.

We decided we deserved a nice little night out and we stopped at Friday’s because they had a good deal. We each got the 2 for $10 where you can pick an appetizer AND and entrée or an entrée AND a dessert. The only logical thing to do was to each get one and one get an app and split it and the other get the dessert and split it. Good deal if I say so myself!

Forgot to snap a picture of the appetizer but we had a spinach and tomato flat bread.

For my entrée I got the Dragonfire Chicken. It was a grilled chicken breast with some orange stuff over rice and broccoli on the side.

The flash went off so the picture isn’t great quality. I ate all the chicken and all the broccoli and ended up leaving almost all the rice because it wasn’t that great. The chicken and broccoli were good but just a little spicier than I expected! I’m a baby when it comes to spicy though.

My mom got the parmesan encrusted chicken which came with a tomato and mozzarella salad on the side.

For dessert, we were trying to decide between the Oreo ice cream sandwich, the peanut butter pie, or the vanilla bean cheesecake. I wanted the Oreo or the peanut butter because that’s just what I would always rather have. Plus, I really don’t like cheese cake! =O Sorry to all you cheesecake lovers but it’s too heavy and creamy to me. I’d much rather have chocolate or peanut butter! Of course, my mom decided on the cheesecake because that is what the server recommended.

Talk about massive! I ended up having two bites and then had to stop there. It was vanilla bean and white chocolate. I’m not a huge fan of white chocolate either so that was more than enough for me. It was pretty good though, my taste buds were just not into it especially since I was feelin’ the chocolate.

Pasta! I’m not sure why, we just usually have potatoes, rice, etc. I remembered how yummy it was though.

These brussel sprouts were cooked perfectly. Sometimes they can be a little hard and have a very strong flavor to me. Luckily these were awesome and I loved them!

I used Whole Foods whole wheat penne pasta, grilled some chicken and put a bit of mozzarella cheese on top to melt. This is the healthier version of chicken parmesan! The breading definitely was not missed and this was just as good, maybe even better ;D

While eating I realized I use my knife in my right hand (I am a righty) but then I usually put the knife down and switch my fork over from my left to my right. It got me thinking if I was the only one? I know my dad has always done that so that’s probably where I got it from, and I will use the fork in my left sometimes. If everything is cut up though or I won’t stay using the knife (such as to eat the pasta and veggies), then I will switch. Totally random and off topic but I’m curious as to what you all do!

The other day it was time to go food shopping again. I feel like I am always at the store buying food! It’s crazy how much food we consume. Anyways, I thought it would be fun to show you guys a “behind the scenes” of my kitchen.

Here are the miscellaneous items. Fact: I am ADDICTED to gum. This one specifically and I consume this 3 pack in less than a week. Not normal. This is my favorite shampoo ever and I needed a new water bottle:)

Whole wheat pita to make homemade pita chips, ton of sweet potatoes/regular ones, Ezekiel sprouted grain, and whole wheat/honey wheat bagels. I normally don’t get bagels but these were buy one get on free and hello I can’t pass that up.

Butter, cream cheese for the madre, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt (never tried this brand before!), creamer, almond breeze, and chocolate almond breeze (never tried this either). More stuff like half and half etc. is already in the fridge.

This looked pretty and I really wanted to put it on the blog. Although, you guys have probably seen cereal more times than you can count on your fingers. I’m getting MUCH better with my picture taking skills and I get excited when a picture comes out good!! 😀 Noob much?!

Workout

Yesterday was my strength training day plus the little bit of cardio I always do. I am ALWAYS looking for new strength training routines. What better way to find new and amazing ones than from BLOGS?!

I’m always looking out for ones that catch my eye and turns out Julie posted one here just a couple days ago that I wanted to try out.

I modified the treadmill routine though and it looked like this:

First of all, I walked the first two minutes and then accidently pulled the emergency plug. I do this ALL the time. So annoying!!! Not a big deal, it was only two minutes so I started over from the beginning.

I loved this! I felt really good today and strong. When I got to the gym (I went to my mini gym) both of the treadmills were taken so I actually did this run in between my strength training.

I completed Julie’s strength workout that complemented this run and added in a 50 squats and 50 plié squats right before the pushups.

I really felt the burn and I felt strong with my strength too!!

I had to meet my mom at an apartment complex so we could look around. Our lease is up the end of October and we’re not sure if we want to stay here or move. Where we live now is a big expensive and it would be nice to get a cheaper price. On the other hand, we really love our unit and it feels home-y to us. So looking around will help us decide!

After going on the tour, my mom wanted Chinese food. I don’t eat it that often because I like eating home better and Chinese food usually has a lot of sodium but once in a while it’s a treat!

We ordered wonton soup to start, which I forgot to take a picture of.

Then we ordered chicken, steamed veggies, brown rice, and some sauce on the side.

It was actually super healthy and delicious 🙂

Things I knew when ordering at a Chinese restaurant:

  • Look for grilled or sautéed, not fried.
  • Steamed veggies, no oil.
  • Brown rice instead of white or fried.
  • Appetizers are usually fried so I skip (eggrolls for example).
  • Sauce on the side since they usually drown the food in it.
  • Lighter soups like wonton instead of the heavier ones.
  • Anything free usually isn’t too healthy but a small portion definitely won’t hurt!

Those are my main guidelines I follow! At any restaurant I do this too.

I’m Back!

Hello there everyone! I have returned !

I completely unplugged from blogging this past weekend because if you didn’t know I was up in Orlando for a friends birthday. I missed all of you, I have tons of blog catching up to do!

However, I had a GREAT weekend and am so happy that I got the chance for a little road trip. It was awesome to spend the weekend with my best friends and just have a good time.

I have tons of homework to catch up on as well so I will do a quick recap of my weekend. In all honesty, I didn’t many pictures of my food! =O I know, how dare I. I did take some before I left and once I got back!

I was only gone for two days and it feels like forever. Why does that happen? Anyways, I hope everyone had an amazing, relaxing weekend as well 😀

Bentley was WAY past due for a grooming so I dropped him off on the way to the gym.

He was stressed out and didn’t want me to take pictures of him.

I went to the gym afterwards and completed a treadmill workout.

I ended up changing it up a bit as time went on but that’s the base around what I did. In the end, I finished 4.81 miles. After my treadmill time, I had a yoga class that I was planning on attending.

We had a sub in the class from the usual instructor but it was still very good. She was a little more talkative but I got a good stretch and felt great afterward!

I came home to shower, pack, and eat lunch before getting pick up to get on the road.

One of the best salad beasts I’ve had in a while. Spinach, tomato, carrots, turkey, cheese, cottage cheese. Alongside a whole wheat pita with a bit of hummus.

I also had a new-to-me flavor of Kombucha! So good.

It was finally time for me to head out! The drive wasn’t bad at all, my two friends picked me up and drove while I lied down in the back and rested my eyes 😉

All the girls before going out. We ended up going to a club called Bliss in downtown Orlando. It was a little smaller than I expected but still such a fun time!

Holy hot and sweaty mess. It was super hot in the club but totally worth it.

 

Of course it ended up being a super late night, which is fine every once in a while. I mean come on, I am in college 😀

We woke up and had breakfast before hitting the road to go back home.

I fell asleep on the way home because going to bed at 5am then waking up at 8, then 10 am is not enough sleep for little ol’ me.

I came home and immediately took a shower and made some pita chips for a snack. I love making these homemade, so yummy dipped in hummus 🙂

For dinner, my mom and I made a beef and baby broccoli stir fry served over brown rice.

Absolutely deeelicious! So easy too. I love getting home from a weekend away to my home cooked, healthy food and my puppy.

I especially love my BED. I was so excited to sleep last night and slept like a baby.

I decided to sleep in this morning instead of waking up at 5 am to get a workout in. I am currently getting some homework done then I’m going to hit the gym for a strength training workout and probably some HIIT.

Never Forgotten

Yesterday, September 11, I meant to write a reflection post later in the day. Unfortunately, I didn’t get around to it because I was out all day and then had to come home and study.

Surviving-9-11

A tragedy happened 10 years ago and it’s something we will always remember.

It was an emotional day for all and a day to remember all the lives that were taken from us.

It was a day to give thanks to all the brave firefighters and police officers that were running in while the rest was running out.

It was a day to reflect on our country and create a sense of unity among all Americans.

It was a day where our hearts were heavy, and tears were shed.

To all the innocent people who died that day, you will never be forgotten.

After watching the tribute on television, we thought it would be nice to head to church. I usually go Saturday nights but wanted to try a sister campus to my church that holds services on Sunday mornings.

I always see this breakfast on Julie’s blog and have been intrigued ever since!

I finally decided to try it this morning, it was delicious!

My mom fried up an egg and I topped my bagel thin with melted muenster cheese and jelly. As you can see I took a couple bites before realizing I almost didn’t snap a picture.

The sermon at the new church we tried out was great. I really loved the way the pastor taught it and it seemed to be completely relevant to my life and I love when that happens!

Once church was over we had a bunch of errands to run. This was when something amazing happened.

I’ve been waiting for a while for this baby to be mine.

DSC01340 Oh yes, FINALLY!!! I’ve had T-mobile for the longest time and I hated my phone because it never worked, the battery died within 2 hours, and lets face it iPhones are the only way to go now Open-mouthed smile Please excuse my crazy fly always.

iPhone 4 baby! As you can see I was just a little excited Winking smile I had a photo shoot while waiting in the car. I’m pretty sure a lady was in the car next to me staring, too. No big deal.

I am obsessed already it’s perfect in every way. I’m excited because now I can read blogs and blog on it easily now! It’s a life changer I’m tellin you!

We got home and had lunch much later than usual around 3:30.

Anything with a butt load of veggies I will be in love with. Butt load may have not been the best word choice to explain something delicious.

Let’s just breeze through the rest of the day because I did nothing interesting what so ever. I spent the day obsessing over my phone downloading 700 apps and “studying”.

I actually didn’t start studying till about 7 pm. The day just flew by yesterday so I had an excuse!

Dinner last night was so simple but very good! This whole post is almost about food but when I go MIA all day this is what happens. I’m sure you guys won’t mind Smile

Organic apple chicken sausage with melted muenster cheese, sauerkraut, and a baked potato. I saw the organic apple chicken in the supermarket and it immediately appealed to me.

It was seriously amazing I highly recommend it. This is my own recommendation, I’m not even sure who makes it, I know I’m a big help, but I found it at Publix.

I couldn’t fall asleep last night and only got about 4 & 1/2 hours. I woke up and needed COFFEE. Of course.

I threw together a yogurt bowl this morning for breakfast.

Plain Chobani Greek yogurt, mini container of blueberry activia, 1/2 peach, raspberries, granola, and a dollop of almond butter.

I love yogurt bowls because you can make each one different by the flavor of yogurt, fruit, cereal or granola, etc. The Greek yogurt gives it more protein than milk would and it’s also super quick which I definitely needed this morning!

It’s been rainy out so I made myself a homemade pumpkin spiced latte courtesy of Mama Pea. Deelish on a rainy day Smile

I’m training my mom at the gym later today so I’m just waiting for her to get home. I’m excited to get my sweat on!

Thunderstorms and Treadmills

Friday night is always a good excuse to go out. After relaxing at the pool for a bit, my mom and I came home and got ready to go to dinner. We hadn’t been food shopping yet so we decided it might be nice to go out for a change. We don’t go out to eat all that often.

We decided to go a little north of where we live and go to a downtown area with restaurants and outdoor shopping. On the way up, the clouds started to roll in and within just a few minutes it was looking a bit scary.

Guess who forgot the umbrella? Of course. Luckily, we got inside a restaurant before the storm kicked into full gear.

How’s that for some clouds! We settled on Yard House because we have both never been there before and it seemed to have anything on the menu.

We sat on an outdoor patio which was completely covered but even before we got our food it started pouring and we started to get wet! We quickly moved to a booth in a corner of the outdoor patio and that was much better. Sorry but I’m not down to get wet during dinner.

We got quite a light show! The thunder was CRAZY it was one of the worst thunder storms I’ve seen in a while.

We started off with a appetizer salads.

We only had the option of Caesar or Ranch because we added it onto our entrées. I chose the caesar but ordered oil and vinegar on the side as my dressing. Caesar can be a bit thick and tangy for my liking.

For my entrée, I ordered a Chicken Veggie bowl with Brown Rice.

It had bok choy, celery, red and green peppers, broccoli, mini corn, mushrooms, snap peas, and some other stuff and the rice is under there somewhere. A bunch of veggies is my kind of meal:)

The portion size was enormous so I ended up taking about half of it home.

This morning I wanted to get in my weekly yoga and saw there was a class at 11. I went a little early and completed 40 minutes on the treadmill. I ended up mixing incline walking, jogging, and sprinting all in one.

I was a sweaty beast after this and I forgot my towel. What is up with me lately? Who knows but I’m sure the clean, nice smelling people in yoga didn’t really appreciate me sweating like a monster Smile

I loved the yoga class I took. Every time I leave yoga I feel so good and tell myself I NEED to do it more! That will be a new goal of mine, I’m determined.

The instructor started off with Thai Chi. It focuses on the breathing and movements and it’s just so smooth and refreshing it was such a great warm up. You can’t do Thai Chi wrong as long as you are moving and breathing.

She did core work, hip openers which was amazing because I was sore, balancing which is my favorite, glutes and hamstrings, and other yoga poses. The class closed out with meditation and although my mind was going a mile a minute I was imagining myself in Malibu, California and it was very relaxing I almost fell asleep. It was so refreshing.

After the gym we had a couple of stops to make, and since we had a very light breakfast we decided to stop somewhere for a salad before heading out. We ended up at Field of Greens which we were just at a few weeks ago.

Mixed greens, tomatoes, walnuts, raisins, gorgonzola cheese, chopped apples, and celery. Something about fruit, nuts, cheese, and dried fruit is amazing. Deeeelish.

We finally went food shopping, to target, and a couple of other things and now I’m relaxing inside because another thunderstorm is on it’s way.
